WILDTREK was founded by Chlaus Lotscher who moved to from his native Switzerland permanently in 1980. His first visit however was back in 1968, when he came to climb mountains. Many visits followed. In 1972 he was a member of an archaeological research team working on excavations on Saint Lawrence Island in the Bering Sea.

Offers anchorage alaskan tours and adventures. I began my apprenticeship as a guide in 1970, when I came to . My adult life has been largely shaped by the wilderness, and the wilderness has shaped the lives of my wife and children (now grown, and accomplished wilderness ers in their own right). My intellectual interests are philosophical, literary, and scientific, and I have learned that these concerns can be -- should be -- an integral part of the wilderness experience.
When I ended my academic career, I made wilderness guiding my full time job. I established Sunlight North Expeditions with two clear purposes: First, to provide only high quality trips in the areas of which I think have the highest wilderness values. These trips include arctic treks, sea kayaking, canoeing, and river rafting. The second purpose was to establish an organic relationship between myself and my environment, and to provide a chance for my clients to do likewise. I see the wilderness experience as an opportunity for emotional and intellectual growth. In any case, I know that when I return from a wilderness experience, my life has somehow been altered for the better.
