Day 1: You arrive in Anchorage, you
pick up your rental car, and enjoy a night at one of
Anchorage's
finest B&Bs. Look for the northern lights tonight, starting
around 10:30PM.
Day 2: Today you'll head down to Seward to take a
half-day cruise through Kenai Fjords National Park. After your
cruise, you'll retire to a cabin on a lake, away from city
lights. Look for the northern lights tonight!
Day 3: You'll start the day today with some
time on your own and a visit to the Alaska Sea Life Center. Then
you'll head off on the Real Alaska Tour, showing you the historical
and natural sights of Seward, lunch at Resurrection Roadhouse, a visit
to Exit Glacier, and a dog sledding demonstration at the kennel of the
2004 Iditarod winner, Mitch Seavey. After your tour, you'll head back
to Anchorage. Watch for beluga whales in Turnagain Arm, on your way
back. You'll spend the night at a great B&B in Anchorage. Look for the
northern lights later tonight!
Day 4: Today you'll head north to
Talkeetna,
the jumping-off point for Mt.
McKinley mountain climbing expeditions. You'll head off on a Denali
adventure of your own, with a one hour flightseeing
trip up to the face of North
America's tallest mountain. Later in the afternoon, explore one of
Alaska's most colorful towns, and then spend the night at a great B&B.
Watch for the northern lights tonight!
Day 5: Take a jet boat safari today, and
explore the rivers around Talkeetna. Watch for moose, bald eagles
spawning salmon and bears. Take a nature walk and learn about the
importance of Alaska's rivers as highways for the early residents of
the area. After your safari, head north to Denali National Park. Along
the way you'll have the chance to stop in Denali State Park, and peer
over the edge at Hurricane Gulch. When you get to Broad Pass, pull
over and take a few minutes to pick some wild Alaskan blueberries.
This evening you'll spend the night in a cabin away from city lights,
just north of the park. Look for the northern lights tonight!
Day 6: Head into Denali National Park and
explore the park using the park shuttle system. Bring a picnic, and
get on and off as much as you like. Denali National Park is a gigantic
park, so you'll need more than just a day to explore. This evening
head back to your cabin and get ready for the northern lights tonight!
Day 7: You'll get another day to explore the
park. Head into the park and hike, take pictures, watch for wildlife,
or catch a glimpse of the mountain. Head back to your cabin tonight
and look for the northern lights!
Day 8: Today you'll head north to
Fairbanks, and get your best chance yet to see the northern
lights. You'll spend the night at one of Fairbanks' best B&Bs.
In the evening, take a short drive north of town and watch for
the northern lights.
Day 9:
Today you'll head back to Anchorage to catch a late evening
flight home. Get a seat on the left side of the plane, and watch
for the northern lights from the plane!
